Specialties
evidence based holistic therapy
We utilize evidence based practices and collaboration with clients, community resources, and colleagues to ensure the most effective treatments are available and provided.
Therapy Methods
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy used to treat distress and emotional dysregulation caused by traumatic experiences. EMDR uses bilateral movement (such as eye movements) to heal from painful or distressing memories. When we fully heal from trauma, we are able to recall the memories without experiencing overwhelming emotional or physical responses. EMDR is extensively researched and proven to be an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD.
ACT
Expending energy on things you cannot control leaves you feeling emotionally and mentally exhausted. Using ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), we identify how unhelpful thinking styles may be convincing you to stay in old patterns of behavior that may have been protective in the past but are no longer serving you. You can discover acceptance for things outside of your control and take meaningful action on things you are capable of changing.
IFS
IFS (Internal Family Systems), aka Parts Work, is a type of therapy used to identify your inner child, inner critic, and true self. Understanding the individual (and at times conflicting) needs of these parts brings a sense of balance, harmony, and wholeness. IFS is an effective treatment for a variety of experiences such as family of origin trauma, relationship issues, anxiety, compulsive behavior, attachment injuries, and can be integrated with EMDR treatment.
Somatic + Mindfulness
Somatic therapy is used to strengthen the connection between your body and mind. Emotional pain and stress is stored in your body leading to muscle tension, difficulty sleeping, and overall wear/exhaustion. Somatic therapy seeks to release these emotions by increasing awareness of body sensations and recalling resources that promote feelings of calm and safety. Using somatic therapy, clients learn to better listen to their body and find partnership with their body as an ally in their healing journey.
Ecotherapy
Ecotherapy (Walking Sessions) involves taking our session outdoors to the local Nashville Greenway. The movement is easy-going and designed to facilitate the psychotherapy process. For some, walking may feel more comfortable than maintaining eye contact while processing emotions. The combined benefits of gentle body movement and spending time outdoors changes the overall dynamic of the therapy session; providing a safe and comfortable space for growth to occur.
Imago Relationship Therapy
In Imago based couples counseling, partners will learn relationship skills that focus on acceptance of differences, empathy, conscious listening and safe communication. By doing so, you and your partner(s) will co-creating a deeper sense of connection and understanding about what makes your relationship work and what old habits and patterns of behavior need to be let go. Conflicts are seen as opportunities for growth, rather than as threats to the relationship. In fact, we say that conflict is growth waiting to happen! We affirm all relationships, including but not limited to ethical non-monogamy and polyamory.
Specialty Areas
Trauma Processing
Trauma processing involves unpacking trauma experiences, learning to regulate emotions, and reconnecting with a more positive sense of oneself. We help you reconnect with your mind-body-emotions. Trauma processing treatment is offered during regularly scheduled sessions, as supplemental sessions, or for extended session intensives.
Anxiety + Mood
Managing the ups and downs of mood dysregulation is challenging. You can’t just think your way out of anxious patterns. We can help you identify unhelpful thinking styles, improve emotional regulation, find acceptance for things outside of your control, and take meaningful action on things you are capable of changing.
Body Positivity
We work within the Healthy at Every Size model (HAES), emphasizing that one’s health is not determined by their body shape or size. We provide you with support for improving the relationship you have with your body by strengthening emotional awareness, improving emotional tolerance, creating more sustainable patterns, and increasing body neutral self-talk. We welcome all body shapes and sizes.
Neurodiversity
Neurodiveristy is an umbrella term used to describe the different ways that people’s brains work. Everyone’s brain is unique in its functioning and no two brains are exactly alike. Being neurodivergent means having a brain that functions differently from the average or “neurotypical” person. While being neurodivergent is not a bad thing, it can cause major issues and difficulty in our lives. It can often feel like everyone else has a guide book for how to socialize and interact that you’ve never known about.
By providing neurodivergent-affirming care, we foster your strengths and process the unique obstacles of navigating a world that caters to neurotypical folks. Therapy can help you learn how to better communicate with yourself and others, while honoring and celebrating your differences. We value the importance of neurodiverse folks and your unique perspectives. Being different is not only a strength, but a gift to the world.
LGBTQ+
We provide a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ folk and allies. It is our privilege to support you through life stressors, identity and sexual exploration, processing discrimination or rejection, and navigating relationships. We can also provide gender affirming healthcare assessments and letters. We welcome all parts of you, and are honored to celebrate your resilience and growth as you reconnect with your true authentic self.
OCD + Perfectionism
Perfectionism can feel overwhelming, all consuming, and impact your daily routine and overall functioning. We understand the importance of not only addressing the symptoms, but also the underlying causes. We equip you with the skills to manage your symptoms and find freedom from unhelpful cycles.
Sex + Kink Friendly
We are sex positive, kink friendly, and advocates for sexual health. Issues we often work with include: processing negative impacts of spiritual trauma and purity culture, body image issues, exploring sexual preferences and identities, navigating non-traditional relationship structures, and difficulty communicating with partner(s) about sex. We hold a safe space in individual or couples therapy sessions for you to talk through specific challenges and goals.
Life Transitions
Life is a constant cycle of transitions. From adjusting to adulthood, moving to a new city, adjusting to college, starting a new job, adding a family member, loss of a loved one - we provide therapeutic support for navigating these changes in your life. Therapy can help you understand your goals, values, and the role others play in this transition period. Let's re-discover your identity, prioritize what is important to you, and navigate both the parts you can control and the ones you can’t.
